Defense of the Ancients (or abbreviated as DotA) is a custom map (map-made) for a computer game made by Blizzard entitled Warcraft III: Frozen Throne, based on map "Aeon of Strife" from the game StarCraft. The main objective of this game is to destroy the "Ancient" enemy, a heavily guarded structure in the lower left corner or upper right (the one for his own side and the other for the enemy side). Both sides are fighting is The Sentinel (peacekeepers) and The Scourge (destroyer forces). The Sentinel guard named Ancient Tree of the World (world tree) in the lower left corner, while The Ancient Scourge guard named Frozen Throne (frozen throne) at the top right corner.
Players can use a powerful figure called "hero" (hero), and assisted by allied heroes and men-fighter (creep) are controlled by AI. As in role-playing game (RPG), players can increase the level of their hero and use gold to buy equipment during the game.
The game was developed using the World Editor from the game Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, and changed with the release of The Frozen Throne. There are many basic concepts, with the most popular is DotA Allstars, which is maintained by some map makers during development. Since its release, Allstars appeared in several worldwide tournaments, including Blizzard Entertainment's BlizzCon and World Cyber Games Asia, and also Cyberathlete Amateur league and CyberEvolution.
